Don't Forget To Enjoy The Learning Process 2006 By Kevin
Ronkko Going to school is unarguably quite a bit of work. Keeping track of a tight class schedule can also be tough. On top of that, staying on top of finances, family and other aspects of life's bits and pieces, can add to the pressures. When things seem to be a bit much though, don't forget the most important reason you are in school. You're in school because you enjoy learning. Aren't You? Why else would people bother to be in school, but because they enjoy learning? Though it is important to build a future career and try to carve out a niche for yourself, if it isn't enjoyable, perhaps you are missing the greatest reward that school has to offer School is, quite simply, lots of fun. It's fun to open a text book and read something interesting. It's fun to learn a new word and its meaning. It's fun to embark upon a curious research journey over a topic you never made the time for before. It's even fun to try a mathematical formula that you have never attempted. So, the next time you are so worried about an assignment, and are feeling that you are at the end of your rope, remember your options: Option 1: Freak out and do something crazy like rip all of your hair out by the roots, for example (please don't do this). Option 2: Sit back. Take a breath, and remember why you are in school you enjoy learning new things. Option 2 seems like a much better choice of the two listed. Just sit back and take a breath of fresh air. Count to ten. Realize that learning new things, though challenging, is fun and something you enjoy. Recently, I had a couple of deadlines that were important for a class I was taking. My computer decided to totally crash, and I lost important data that I needed for class. Rather than freak out, I decided to take a calm, rational approach. I just did the assignments as well as I could under the circumstances. Though I took a slight hit with my grades for the assignments, I still got an A for the class. More importantly, I enjoyed the entire class, even the part of the class where technology was working against me. Learning to enjoy learning can actually be transferred later into a job skill. Chances are, if you enjoy learning, you'll enjoy your job and work. Your co-workers will like you around, and you'll be on the road to success with a healthy smile on your face. ***** Kevin Ronkko is the author of "The Singing Drummer: Add Vocals to Your Beat," published by Windstorm Creative LTD.
